Recently, Changbao Special Materials successfully completed the delivery of its first commercial order of high-end stainless steel heat exchanger tubes. This marks the official launch of the Changbao Special Materials project into the market-oriented operations and represents a milestone in Changbao’s product transformation journey.

Adhering to high standards and stringent quality requirements, the Special Materials Division ensured compliance with mechanical properties, intergranular corrosion resistance, and dimensional accuracy through precise control of the atmosphere, temperature, and cooling rates during solution heat treatment. The successful delivery of this initial commercial contract not only validates the consistency of special material production processes and the stability of equipment but also serves as the first step in Changbao’s strategic move into the high-end special materials market and its accelerated product transformation.

The Changbao Special Materials project officially broke ground on November 28, 2023, with plans to build an intelligent production line with an annual capacity of 8,500 tons. The project focuses on full-specification precision tubing ranging from 6.35mm to 88.9mm, aiming at localization and import substitution. It aims to expand into advanced material sectors such as austenitic-ferritic super duplex stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and corrosion-resistant alloys. The goal is to achieve breakthroughs in the field of “highly precise and advanced” products, such as ultra-clean tubes, umbilical tubes for offshore engineering, high-performance heat exchanger tubes, and nickel alloy oil tubing.

The project team, in close cooperation with construction units, raced against the clock and overcame numerous challenges. After over 400 days of intensive construction, by Q1 2025, the high-end alloy tube line, ultra-long precision pipe line, and clean bright tube line had entered the trial production phase. The hot extrusion line is expected to begin commissioning in July.

Looking ahead, Changbao will leverage the Special Materials project to drive transformation and upgrading of product and market structure. By cultivating high-end products with significant technical barriers, the company aims to build core competitiveness and unlock new growth potential in the special materials field, foster advanced productive forces, and contribute to the upgrading of the high-end equipment manufacturing industry.
